Carhartt Size Chart

Workwear, outerwear, denim, boots and accessories for men, women and kids. Carhartt garments are cut generously to layer over other clothing — all measurements are body measurements in inches unless stated otherwise.

Men's Pant Fit Guide

Carhartt uses fit names to describe room through the seat and thigh, plus the shape of the leg.

Slim Tapered · Relaxed · Loose
Fit Seat & Thigh Waist / Rise Leg
Slim Tapered Closest fit through the thigh Sits just above the waist Tapers from mid-thigh to hem
Relaxed Straight Roomier through seat and thigh Sits just below the waist Straight from mid-thigh to hem
Relaxed Tapered Roomy through seat and thigh Sits just below the waist Narrows from mid-thigh down
Loose Straight Generous through hip, seat and thigh Sits slightly above the waist Straight, wider leg

Overalls & coveralls

Order your natural waist measurement when worn alone. If you plan to wear them over other clothing, order one size up. Short and tall lengths are offered in selected styles.

Tall & short sizing

Tall outerwear and long-sleeve shirts add 2" to both the torso and the sleeve. Tall short-sleeve shirts add 2" to the torso and ½" to the sleeve.

Relaxed vs. loose fit

Relaxed Fit sits closer to the body with a subtle shape. Loose Fit adds ease through the chest and shoulders for a roomier, longer feel.

Between two sizes?

Carhartt recommends ordering the larger size when a chest, waist or hip measurement falls between two size bands.

Women's Tops, Outerwear & Thermal Tops XS – 3XL

Women's styles use both alpha and numeric sizing. Numeric ranges are shown alongside each alpha size.

Shirt fit names

Relaxed Fit has the most ease over the body with a subtle shape. Slightly Fitted flows over the contours. Fitted sits closest to the body.

Between two sizes?

Order the larger size. Carhartt women's workwear is sized with room to move and layer, so sizing up rarely feels oversized.

Baby & Infant 0 – 24 months

Baby sizing is based on weight and height rather than age alone — always check both.

Measure over undergarments

Chest is measured just under the arms and across the shoulder blades, keeping the tape firm and level.

Growing room

Kids' workwear is cut with room to move. If height and weight disagree, go by height for a better fit through the shoulders and sleeves.

Width

Most men's boot styles are offered in Medium (D) and Wide (EE). Women's styles are generally offered in Medium (B) and Wide (C/D). Wide options suit a roomier toe box.

Sizing down for boots

Leather work boots break in and relax slightly. If you are between two sizes and wear thin socks, the smaller size usually settles in well.

Wearing thick socks

If you plan to wear heavy work socks, measure your foot while wearing them and size from that measurement.

Measure in the afternoon

Feet swell slightly over the course of a day. Measuring late in the afternoon gives a truer fit for all-day footwear.

Women's belts are sized by pant size: XS for 0–2, S for 4–6, M for 8–10, L for 12–14, XL for 16–18 and 2XL for 20.

Bibs & suspenders

Suspenders are generally one size and adjustable. Replacement bib straps are matched to the overall style rather than to a body measurement.

How to Measure

Use a cloth measuring tape and measure over your undergarments. Keep the tape firm and level — not tight.

Chest

Measure just under the arms and across the shoulder blades, holding the tape firm and level.

Bust

Measure the fullest part of the bust, keeping the tape parallel to the floor.

Natural Waist

Bend side to side and find the natural bend in your body. That is your natural waist — it may not be the smallest point.

Hips / Seat

Measure the fullest part of the hips, approximately 8 inches below the natural waist.

Inseam

Lay a pair of pants that fit you well flat and measure from the crotch seam to the bottom of the hem. If you don't have a pair, measure from crotch to your desired pant length.

Length options vary by style and are marked on the product page.

Finding Your Fit

Cut for layering

Carhartt workwear is designed to be worn over other clothing. For a closer, more contemporary fit, size down one from your usual size.

Workwear vs. fashion line

The main workwear line is cut generously. The fashion-led sub-label runs noticeably slimmer and closer to true to size — check which line you are buying.

Fabric behaviour

Duck canvas and denim relax slightly with wear and washing. Cotton outerwear can shrink a little if tumble dried.

Between two sizes?

Order the larger size. This applies to chest, waist, hip and glove measurements alike.

Hand-me-down sizing

Kids' styles are cut with growth room. Adjustable bib straps and elastic waistbands extend wear through a growth spurt.

Boots need break-in

Full-grain leather work boots mould to the foot over the first weeks. Allow for a snug start rather than an immediately loose fit.

Fit note: all charts show body measurements, not garment measurements. Garment dimensions vary by style, so check the individual product page as well.

Care & Guarantee

  • Returns: unworn, unwashed items with original tags can be returned within the stated return window.
  • Exchanges: wrong size? Exchange for another size or colour while stock lasts.
  • Footwear: try boots on indoors first — scuffed or soiled soles may not qualify for return.
  • Care: turn garments inside out and machine wash cold; air dry to minimise shrinkage and protect the fabric.
  • Built to last: defects in materials or workmanship are covered by the brand's repair, replacement or credit commitment.

Conversions follow Carhartt's published sizing for men, women, kids, footwear and accessories. Measurements are approximate and provided for reference only.
